Sol 2261: Another hole in Mars, but is it deep enough to have obtained a sample?......

"Curiosity got a sample from a red rock in the Jura member of Vera Rubin Ridge!!! For those at home keeping score, that’s 3 drill samples from the ridge and 1 extremely happy campaign lead"

Well the material from the 19th hole is certainly redish smile.gif and a small sample was dropped onto the closed SAM cover during sol 2263.

Get samples in CheMin and SAM and we'll be heading off the ridge to pastures new....

Ingesting the Rock Hall Sample

Three images from Curiosity's left side mast camera, have been assembled into an animated GIF showing the SAM inlet cover, on Sols 2263, 2279 & 2281. On the first image we can see the cover in its normally closed position, the next image also shows the cover closed, but complete with a dusting of grey powdered rock from a drop test of sample material obtained at the drill hole at 'Rock Hall'. The last image shows the inlet port wide open after a portion of the Rock Hall sample was dropped into the inlet port. GIF size reduced to 1024 wide to speed load time. I thought that I'd posted this yesterday, but there must have been an upload error that I missed... sad.gif
