I have been posting these maps since landing (and plan to continue), but if you want a summary of the rover's travels and you don't want to slog through over 1100 posts, I have now collected maps of the whole traverse up to about sol 1948 (nominally 1950, but I finished a bit early).

They can be obtained here:

as a printed 'magazine' or as a PDF file. There is an e-book option but I'm not sure how effective that is and for now I'm not sure I would recommend it.

I did this for Opportunity before, just as an epub file, but that will soon follow in the new print plus PDF format at Blurb.ca, updated to sol 5000.

Sol 1962, a drive to a bright outcrop sitting in a small depression. The route is loosely based on visible tracks. As always I will correct it based on JPL mapping as it becomes available. This overview shows that we are getting back to the planned drive path after an excursion into the clay unit.

It seems Curiosity might stay at sol's 1963 location for a while,to attempt drilling, so here is an update with the latest move.

A drive on sol 1985... here's an updated map. The position might be refined when a full panorama is available, and the route is just a guess so far.

A roughly 50 m drive on sol 1986. That is shorter than expected, but possibly the path was more convoluted than i show here. I will update this when i know more, but the location is good.

I was right about the last drive - it was much longer than a straight line. Same problem today - I have a fairly good location but no idea what the path looked like. It's an iterative process!

More twisting on sol 1989. I guess this shows the terrain is not that easy to navigate... This update to sol 1989 includes Phil's map of the drilling attempts (thanks Phil!).

15 m on sol 1991 - quick update. I will be travelling for a few days so there may be a delay in mapping. Final destination: LPSC.

Thanks as always for the great mapping work. Just one niggle - I'm pretty sure the name Peterculler should actually read Peterculter. The original is in Aberdeenshire (and the l is silent, rhymes with scooter).

Niggles are always welcome! I took the name from the MSL website update here:

This is not the first time a mistake has been made there. When the Analyst's Notebook is updated at 4 month intervals I always check target names and locations, and every now and then I find one that was spelled differently in the update. I will follow your suggestion here and change it, and look again at this when it shows up in the Analyst's Notebook.

Thanks, Fernando! I am in my hotel in Houston, ready to spend 2 days in the Microsymposium and then next week at LPSC.

Here is my update to sol 1993 with a few corrections including 'Peterculter' and the last few drives. I always check my maps with the JPL maps when they are released, and for the sol 1986 drive the two separate JPL maps don't agree. I had used one, now I'm using the other.

A drive on sol 1996 took us out of my map area, so I have had to extend it - I will extend the larger scale map later when i know how far we have gone in this direction.
