"The Martian Way" KML file users may come upon Google's announcement of a new version of GEarth. Released today (April 18) this version, is browser based only, and can be found at http://earth.google.com/web
Regarding the suitability of this new version for viewing Curiosity's path KML file, I'd like to caution that, at this time, it is not suitable. In fact, the new version does not replace the desktop standard and pro versions. For instance, it does not have the Moon/Mars/Sky DBs, nor does it fully support the KML language. For a comparison of the new and old versions see https://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/20...ilable-now.html Fernando |

Thanks, Nogal.
Here is an update to sol 1672. I'm looking forward to getting up to Vera Rubin Ridge, hopefully fairly quickly. Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

This is one of those occasions where Hazcams alone give a very clear location. A 20 m drive south to the next bit of bright outcrop.

I expected longer, but the sol 1678 drive was only about 20 m. Paul's half panorama took me to the new location.

...and a similar drive on sol 1680, zooming down the bright outcrop corridor. The big bright slabs make location finding quite easy at the moment.

Update to sol 1680. Curiosity is definitely out of the dune field and its route will now become more easterly, according to the notional route, see post #880. It has less than 900m to go before turning south and starting to climb the Vera Rubin Ridge.

On the road again (cue the harmonica). Update to sol 1683, still trotting along the bright outcrop.

A very quick update to sol 1684. I will replace it with an improved map this evening. But this shows where I think we are. EDIT - Map updated.

This sol 1686 move was a short drive to the south, curving to the east to get to the side of the big ripple we were at the north end of on sol 1685. If you follow... Proper update tonight if Ontario isn't swept away in a gigantic flood this afternoon.
