I'm currently working on allowing access to another forgotten dataset. This dataset consists of three CD volumes (VGR_2101, VGR_2102 and VGR_2103). The input tapes to this CD volume set consist of the Voyager mosaics of all the satellites of Jupiter. The images were originally intended for use in an atlas of the Voyager satellites. This data set was created at JPL as part of its Science Digital Data Preservation Task (SDDPT). This dataset like many others SDDPT data sets is not readily usable, as they represent bit copies of old data tapes and do not contain user documentation.

Here is a sample of what is contained in this data set:

Peter, you are the unsung hero of the oldest data sets. Thanks for all the work you do! I can't wait to see more of these, though I wonder how they'll compare to what DrShank will shortly be publishing in his atlas.

(By the way, I split this to a new topic with a more useful title, this is worthy of its own thread.)

Great work, Peter, and if this works correctly:

Neat stuff! I can't wait to see all of it. Are you displaying the mosaics at reduced resolution or were they produced at half-size?

Neat stuff! I can't wait to see all of it. Are you displaying the mosaics at reduced resolution or were they produced at half-size?

Original images after saving in JPG format are typically larger than 1M, so I'm forced to reduce them by 50 percent.

Thanks! The way you worded it earlier, I couldn't tell if you had reduced them for this reason or if they were reduced on the CD-ROM.
