I'm finally getting results with 360's. I thought the issue was a lack of memory but it turned out to be a lack of experience with the software

That's very nice. The Earth-ish version is particularly evocative.

While waiting for images with missing data to be updated for some lovely recent panoramas, here's a preview on what's keeping me busy

Woah.
We need a server with massive bandwidth for these pictures so they can be posted in high quality JPEG, or else PNG format. Gisol has "unlimited" bandwidth for $10 a month. If I weren't the typical "poor college student" I'd have gone for that right away. I wonder what "unlimited" actually means? (and no, the offer there doesn't expire today. Marketing.... ) Love to set up something like they've got at pics.bbzzdd.com - the images are only viewable when accessed from a few specific tech sites. Using that software, there could be a pics.unmannedspaceflight.com site, with pics only viewable here - even viewable only by members if bandwidth needed to be saved. Maybe when I'm done with college in like...2-3 years.... |

Those thumbnails look stunning!
I tried downloading a couple of the full size images they linked to, but neither the default Windows viewer nor the Gimp would recognise them as a valid file format (not jpg, anyway). Also...as they are so big, would you be able to provide some half or quarter size versions please? I'd love to see them in more detail, but right now I can not see anything but the thumbnails. Thanks, Airbag |

How would I know the "List Selection for sol 1 to present" contains 50% images? Wouldn't it be more straighforward to just link from the pages with the thumbnails and text descriptions of the diferenent sizes to the various images? At least that way you can see what you are going to get, both in terms of image and file size (for instance, directly from http://www.awalkonmars.com/Spirit_271-360_rad.htm). Anyway, that is all moot since I still can not view any such images, 100% or 50% in XP or with the Gimp: "Not a JPEG file; starts with 0x35 0x62". Airbag |

I guess a couple of directions could be useful. I AM planning to link all sizes directly beside the thumbs but right now there's only this 360 and maybe one or two other files available in anything other than 100%.
When I finish a few things I'm working on now I will add 50% size for most and even 25% for some big files. Right now I have to make a lot of choices regarding time to get things done.. File naming and resolution- A1105PCM12L256E2.jpg (that's your problem I guess, they're .jpg's..) > A= Awalkonmars 1= Spirit / 2 = Oppy 105 = sol # P= panoramic camera C= color / A = anaglyph / S = stereo M= mosaic 12 = 12-bit / 8 = 8-bit L256= filters used E= enhanced 1 = 100% / 2 = 50% / 4 = 25% of full size ... Thanks for mentioning Airbag. If anyone else has ideas on improving navigation and such or any issue at all, please let me know. This is one of my favorites; http://img52.imageshack.us/my.php?image=colorpeaksc13sg.jpg and the 'outer' moons of course. I used to be extremely fascinated by the outer solar system as a kid.. Nico -------------------- photographer, space imagery enthusiast, proud father and partner, and geek.
