As i understand correct, during live stream, Eyes used real telemetry data from vehicle for the graphic presentation of whole EDL sequence. No, it didn't. It was a predict from 3 weeks before landing. There was a realtime visualization via Mars Odyssey telemetry - but it wasn't Eyes on the Solar System and it updated at something under 1hz. D |

'Eyes...' has nothing for surface operations. We intend to replace the EDL trajectory with a reconstructed trajectory of actual events in a few weeks time when the team's had a chance to process all that data.

Heh, my post was redundant, then. BTW, watch the heat shield falling away for almost a minute. Amazing. I nearly started to hope to see the actual impact.

The actual heat shield impact is visible in the MARDI film, near the bottom of the frame about one to two seconds before backshell release. It's a suddenly-appearing dark dot that obviously shows a small circular plume of ejecta puffing out around it.

Indeed! It appears much later than I expected, but it's quite nicely resolved! Wow!

That video is really good! Does it appear that the actual landing (from the moment the dust starts flying) has been sped up?

Does it appear that the actual landing (from the moment the dust starts flying) has been sped up? It does look that way to me. -------------------- |

I suspect that once the dust started flying, s/he couldn't extrapolate by hand any more. So s/he either had to speed it up, or switch back down to 4 fps.

Classy job by Bard Canning: even putting in the sound of cable cutters severing the bridles!
