We're at $2440 now. I'm satisfied -- thanks all for your support for this place for another year.

Whilst I'm a keen supporter of the space images archive I think the fact that additional contributions now will not pay directly to this forum may cause a slowdown. I would suggest that in future after the initial target is reached the receipts be split 50-50 between the space images project and 'money in the bank' for UMSF.

There's not really any point in keeping money in the bank, unless I want to try to push for two years worth of funding at once. I don't see a need to do that. So I let the fundraising go past the goal as far as it seems to want to go. The fact of the matter is that the fundraiser never closes -- people can, and do, donate year-round. We're actually doing a major fundraiser among members right now to support the newly renamed Bruce Murray Space Images Library (which has new search features, if you haven't checked it out yet), and I know some members of UMSF have already donated to that so I'm not surprised it tailed off when it did.

Sorry I was late with my donation this year. Been busy lately running around southern Europe. So it's all going to the image library now? Good enough.

A quick mention since there's a promo going right now that might make TPS a quick $5:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1001922881 smile.amazon.com is a new doorway site that funnels small amounts of the revenue from your amazon purchases to your preferred charity. I mention it here because The Planetary Society is one of the charities. Happy holidays everyone! |

And, of course, you can always respond to Bill Nye, who is sending out requests to everyone who gave money during our fund drive to give more money...

Yes, clearly this is not the most direct contribution, and involves actually giving money to amazon, whatever you may think of that whole process. There a lot of backstory with Amazon being flinty in the past and probably all sort of other discussion, but that's moot as far as I'm concerned, because I was going to buy that kindle book anyways, and if it helps TPS, so much the better.

Hey all, it's that time of year again. It costs us $2000 a year for our speedy and reliable server and hosting, funds that we raise through an annual drive in the fall. Show your love for unmannedspaceflight.com through a donation of $100, $20, $10, $5, or whatever you can afford. Donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. Any funds raised over and above the $2000 goal for UMSF hosting will support our continuing project to build up and enhance our amateur image processing database, which now contains nearly 800 images. We recently renamed the Planetary Society's image database for one of our cofounders, Bruce Murray, who died this year. The Bruce Murray Space Images Library incorporates our amateur image database as well as professionally produced images. Please help us keep UMSF going! Thanks in advance for your support. Better late than never, I just sent in $25 |
