I’m Jake Matijevic and I’ll be giving the Flight Director’s Report for June 17th, 2005.
On Spirit today is nearly the end of the day of sol 517. And in the past three or four days Spirit’s been driving away from an outcrop called Methuselah in the Columbia Hills and moving in a direction towards the peak called Husband Hill in the hill. In the last three/four sols Spirit has made about fifty meters of a trek that maybe about 300 meters before it reaches the peak. On the other side of the planet, Opportunity has completed a drive which repositioned it with its in-situ instrument in position for measuring the regulus in this location near a sand dune. That sand dune was the same feature that Opportunity recently drove out of and the science team is interested in the actual constituent material that makes up this particular feature. Opportunity will be deploying its instrument arm and making measurement both in the tracks from the sand dune and in the undisturbed soil to determine what material acturally formed this feature on the Meridiani Plain. And that’s what’s happening on Mars today. Thank you. |
