Hi, first post and hoping people here can help!
I've been doing some private research (aimed at debunking the 'Moon landings were hoaxed' conspiracy theories once and for all) comparing weather satellite images taken during the Apollo missions with Apollo photographs of Earth.
I've managed to source images from at least one of the ATS, ESSA & NIMBUS satellites for every day of every mission & surprise surprise the weather patterns on them are an exact match for those of the Apollo photographs. There's a thread about it on Apollohoax.net if anyone is interested in some early stuff from it.
The obvious criticism thrown at the research is that all the evidence comes from the same source, and what would really by the icing on the cake would be satellite sources from countries other than the USA. The former USSR is the obvious one as they were launching satellites at the same time.
However, I have been unable to track down any such images from non-US sources. Does anyone know of any? I've tried contacting the more well known sites to no avail. They may be lurking in Soviet journals but I don't speak Russian!
Thanks in advance.
threadworm, while I think it's folly to imagine that *anything* will convince wacky conspiracy theorists that their convoluted manufactured histories are wrong, I think this is a fun project, and I look forward to seeing your comparisons. You've come to the right place -- hopefully someone will have some ideas for where you can find Russian photos!
Just to give an idea, this is the Earth as zoomed in on from http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/AS11-44-6642HR.jpg, which is one of the images from the sequence of the lunar module returning to the command & service module.
Alongside it are images from ESSA-9, NIMBUS-3 & ATS-3 satellites as well as a Stellarium estimate of the terminator position at 21:24, when the image is recorded as being taken.
The ESSA & NIMBUS passes are given with the sources, so you can get an estimate of when the satellite would have imaged the same areas visible in the photo.
