Here is a detailed paper describing CheMin, a neat X-ray lab for MSL capable of identifying almost any mineral.

Chemin now has its own http://chemin.lanl.gov/, with more technical detail.

NASA also has a http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/technologies/Portable_CheMin.html on it.

There also a http://www.abqtrib.com/albq/news/article/0%2C2564%2CALBQ_19855_3427502%2C00.html which gives some more background. Interestingly it says that Chemin has been part of two proposed Discovery missions (one to a comet, another to the moon). Does anyone know which missions they are?
