Panorama taken on sol 592 with MC34 is now complete... Nice job, Thomas! If my boss is listening: just once you'd think we could image the whole rover. This mosaic could have been iconic, but with the big black gap no mosaic ever will be IMHO. -------------------- Disclaimer: This post is based on public information only. Any opinions are my own.

I second that emotion. It sounds like the kind of image I would like for my rover atlas cover.

Thirded. Oh, well, at least the MAHLI PI understands how valuable it is to have rover self-portraits

Thanks Mike
I agree with you. These kind of "full" panos would be really useful for public outreach as well. -------------------- |

On sol 595, Curiosity drove about 50m, stopping regularly to take photos of the outcrops at the edge of The Kimberley. Locations of these stops are indicated on this panorama taken on sol 594 (click on the panorama to view the locations):
And here are the 4 mosaics: Stop n°1: Stop n°2: Stop n°3: Stop n°4: -------------------- |

On sol 593, Curiosity also stopped regularly to take photos of the outcrops at the edge of The Kimberley. Locations of these stops are indicated on this panorama taken on sol 592 (click on the panorama to view the locations):

Has anyone else noticed the pronounced visual similarity between the bases of these mounds at Kimberley and the base of Home Plate in Gusev?
I know that there is a great danger in coming to conclusions based on visual similarities. But it will be interesting to see if the mineralogy here and at Home Plate are similar, as well. -the other Doug (with my shield, not yet upon it) -------------------- “The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right.” -Mark Twain

I didn't posted my opinion before for the same reasons, but in fact my first impression was the same as yours.

Very nice!
Only thing missing is another picture (between 1st and 2nd) with only the Mastcam visible just lurking from behind the crest of the Dingo Gap. Just a suggestion... Thorsten |

Hi Thorsten,
Thanks! I realised that just as I completed the sequence. I recall the mastcam shot of Curi peering over the dune before she crossed. Watch this space. Sean -------------------- |
