On further inspection I noticed that I misplaced the image by 1 degree, so here is the new version of the map.
So it turns out that eruption happened right on plate boundary in the middle of Tonga volcanic arc.

I was wondering if it would have caught it, and sure enough DSCOVR also caught it:
