Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Mars Odyssey _ Experimenting with THEMIS RGB images

Posted by: Bjorn Jonsson Apr 17 2015, 09:55 PM

I have noticed that RGB THEMIS images are remarkably rare, perhaps because this data is somewhat difficult to process, so just for fun I'm posting a very early and crude version of an image I'm working on - better versions should show up later:

This was processed in ISIS followed by some Photoshop processing. The images can probably be better aligned, there are some color 'stripes' and the color isn't final.

From the limited 'sampling' I have done from the THEMIS dataset, RGB images are relatively rare, the majority of the data at visible wavelengths is monochrome. But this is an interesting and maybe 'underestimated' dataset.

The image shows terrain near latitude 21.6 degrees north and longitude 337.5 degrees east.
