Lovely, DJ.
When the Virtual Reality Gusev finally appears on JPL's site, is this how you think it should look? I don't understand what you mean by "new data". Are we still getting data from Larry's Lookout?

The recently released Sols 450-540 of calibrated raw data at the PDS / MER Notebook etc.

Sweeeeett! tongue.gif
You may be a 'dish jockey' in your day job, Astro0, but there's an artist in there, fighting to get out. Love the salmon tinge. If you could just turn these into movies , we wouldn't need IMAX or Disney! biggrin.gif

FWIW, I played with the colour - totally subjective, but it's how I think of the place!

Ah, will we ever really know? (insert emoticon for yearning )
Which is closer to the Imax film? Anybody seen it?

Bob: The difference is that MER is on Mars (dime light) and Earth (bright light). I like the last ones. More energy and enthusiasm!

smile.gif Wow stunning images! Hardly still more to advance!

Regarding the color, I would prefer anything between the reddish and brownish one biggrin.gif wink.gif

Trying to sway the colours toward a 'this is what I think it's like' ballpark is a dangerous game - it assumes that mars is the same every day - and boy oh BOY if you look at the calibrated stuff, it isnt - sometimes it looked redder, sometimes greyer, sometimes browner, sometimes even a bit bluer smile.gif

I'll admit it - that image I posted isnt where I'd leave it, but it's not that far off to be honest - it was a fairly dingy period around then.

Maybe this the best (subjective) compromise... anyway, main purpose of this version is to make more realistic rover color wink.gif

Will we ever know what the 'true' colour of Mars is...?
Sure we will. Humans will walk there some day, along side our robotic, roving heroes.

Personally I liked Doug's original colours. I think that it is probably closer to what the human eye would 'see'. blink.gif

I blended Spirit in with the same colouring, that salmon-coloured sky would certainly create some interesting variations in what you would 'see'. I think that everyone's concepts are right, but as Doug said, if you look at the calibrated Pancam images the colour from day-to-day varies wildly.

The bottom line is that we are all having fun during this amazing adventure.
