In a followup to last night's report of "alien sand circles" near Petanque Mesa, two farmworkers from the East Basin, Kelvin Brittlesnogg and Marvin Bollenfrees, admitted to creating the markings as a joke.

no 'penultimate' - so I don't think there's actually driving, just 'ultimate' as the last of the day to show where the iDD is.

But they wouldn't necessarily take a 'penultimate' if it was only a short drive and the 'ultimate' is a rear hazcam image.

I find it hard to beleve they will move though, lets wait and see...

EDIT: Site change from AR00 to AS00 on Sol 855!

EDIT: On further investigation it seems that these values change on most sols anyway - even when there is no driving

Because the site number has been reset I can't tell if how far the rover has moved (if any) but I think there has been some motion as the rover orientation has changed:

Don't ask me what there numbers mean I don't really know: they are the 'site_rover_origin_rotation_quaternian_[abcd]' values and I won't pretend to understand quaternians apart from that they define the rovers attitude in some way.

Are they testing the "pose a wheel on top of a rock for more tilt" manouver? How much can the rover move without causing problems with the grand panorama?

Well - the left pancam is 135.3mm from the rotational axis of the PMA - so just by looking 180 degrees, it moves 27cm to one side. I don't think a 50cm bump would make much different for anything but the very near-field.

So its definite? The rover has moved a little? I wonder if it was to change the arm's workspace. Does that mean that the project of digging layer by layer into the soil is over? Or is that spot still in reach?
