Posted by: Kevin Gill Jun 28 2023, 11:58 PM

The Mars portion of VICAR, called VISOR, has been released as open source. The source is available here: https://github.com/NASA-AMMOS/VICAR. This is the software used at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to make operational and archive (PDS) image data products for all recent Mars surface missions.

Before starting, make sure to review the abstract from the 6th Planetary Data Workshop (2023) here https://www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/planetdata2023/pdf/7076.pdf and to make yourself familiar with the newly written documentation which comes complete with examples and data: https://github.com/NASA-AMMOS/VICAR/blob/c6a58db3d629ef4d0e708a8855219d21a1d3ed28/vos/docsource/vicar/VISORUserGuide_v1_0.pdf

This includes utilities for
Debayer
Mosaicking
Radiometic correction
Stereo correlation
Terrain Meshes
Instrument/Helicopter Placement
Seam/Brightness Corrrection

For the coders, a high-level description for the PIG (Planetary Image Geometry) library can be found in the user guide (linked above)
