They just love teasing don't they? I haven't heard much from Chandra since launch, will be nice to see what they've found.

It's not a big secret Explorer1...it's something exceptional... http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/GLAST/ne...-structure.html or not... EDITED: Hmm...maybe something else actually... -------------------- "Ride, boldly ride," The shade replied, "If you seek for Eldorado!"

That's actually a very remarkable find! Not only will this provide valuable ground truth observations for what has until now been a strictly theoretical set of processes, but we should be able to find others now much more easily.
Nice catch, Chandra team. -------------------- A few will take this knowledge and use this power of a dream realized as a force for change, an impetus for further discovery to make less ancient dreams real.

I thought we know of a few black holes much closer than that.
As for "young", IIUC the age does not have any effect on black hole's physical properties. This is an interesting result nevertheless: another, more direct confirmation than BHs do form in some supernovas. |

Re "young": Well, yeah, but AFAIK this is the first time that we've witnessed the birth & much of the immediate post-creation history of a black hole (during which presumably it reaches an equilibrium state with its surrounding environment that lasts for eons afterward), so from that viewpoint it's an important set of observations.
