A stitch of pancams from Sol1987. (The best fit was a L at top and 2 Rs!) Full 1.9M version on Flkr here http://www.flickr.com/photos/kililpi/

So why a pancam of the tracks? Monday morning ........... a drive out of the 'garage'! I think this must be the track over the FL wheel (no deep skids) - It sort of bugged me so I tried to match it up with a previous pic posted by Phil....... these rocks could match?

Maybe it should be transported, as is, to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. laugh.gif

I actually think you're not far off. Freeing Spirit, Oppies wheel maintenance, building the ISS, the Hubble repair and all the other in-mission repairs, fixes and responses to unforeseen events are hugely important even if you entirely discount the science obtained after the fix. We're learning how to operate in space and on other planets and that's just not something you can learn in simulations.

The efforts to Free Spirit are a superb illustration of the fact that not all the heroes and heroines of the space program wear EVA suits and float about outside the ISS or ride shuttles into orbit; some wear white lab coats and sneakers, and never get any closer to the stars than we do. I hope that when Spirit is finally freed the people at JPL who made it possible are given appropriate recognition by NASA higher ups.

(BTW: if anyone wants to read my latest MER fiction, here it is: http://barsoomtales.wordpress.com/2009/08/05/gone )

The NAV cams have executed another early morning pan in West Valley
It is earlier than the other sol, the sun is still behind HP, and their is no pronounced shadow of the rover to the west.

The mornings are quite beautiful in Gusev. Why 2 (almost exact) early morning pans? terrain mapping?

This is exquisite:

Weird... Last night, I had a dream that Spirit became unstuck almost immediately when the first commands were sent to the rover on Mars. unsure.gif

I once dreamed a gust of wind (the kind that clean solar panels) blew it out of the sand trap.

Looks like another look at that rock with the Microscopic Imager. Is it touching? Just touching? Not quite touching? My guess - just touching.....

Taken on Sol 1990 14.08 Mars time.

Had a further play around with the images to try to see the point where the rock and the underside of the rover appear to meet. Speculating !!! - In 01, it looks as though the rock is just touching - but in 02 it looks as though the 'shadow' or 'mark' on the underside of the rover continues past the top of the rock and the rock itself looks like it could form a peak just below the underside.

Last two full calypso pan images are now down from sol 1934. Now we’re just waiting on the 4 partials to be re-transmitted from sols 1911 (2), 1920 and 1925.

Here are the Sol 1990 MI's of Spirit's underbelly...(super processed to yield an equalized histogram)
Image names are sp1990_134X_mi (taken at 13:40pm Local, 13:42, and 13:44)
The camera angle shifts between 13:40 and 13:42 and the rock does not appear to be hitting anything (very small clearance)
13:44 is shifted and taken at a and higher elevation.

An industrious 'stereo anaglyph-er' out there in UMSF may be able to mix and match them to form some sort of interesting results (?!) Also, notice the rocks in 1340 and 1344 on the left side in the sunlight - some other industrious USMFer might be able to ID them in from the hazcams (rear, facing south, a little to the left...??)

As far as I can tell, all of the Calypso Pan images are now down in full.
