Just found this excellent Steve talk on YouTube. I like the panoramic picture of him
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtMLzn40XzQ The part beginning here is a great recognition of all the great work done by so many in here from Steve. Great stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtMLzn40XzQ...tailpage#t=844s -------------------- "I want to make as many people as possible feel like they are part of this adventure. We are going to give everybody a sense of what exploring the surface of another world is really like"

BTW, there's a lovely recognition by SS at 14.10 of all the "amateur scientists" like us sitting around the world, following the mission... - He goes online (surely UMSF) in the morning with his coffee and cornflakes and checks out all the mosaics and panos etc that people her have been doing! Woohoo!
hi Steve :-) |

For me one of the most interesting tidbits was the background story on just how MRO ended up with a transponder operating at the same frequency as the one on Spirit. I knew it was a matter of "we didn't expect the rovers to still be running when MRO got there" but didn't know they actually used a duplicate 'spare' transponder from the MER project.

Not Steve Squyres but Jim Bell giving a concise, content rich overview of the MERs mission plus a quick preview of MSL:
