Hi All,

In the last few days there have been a lot of posts that have needed to be edited by the admin/mod team due to excessive quoting and quoting of images.

To help keep the Forum pages as clean as possible and speed its download for many users, please remember our guidelines:

3.5 Avoid excessive quoting. If your reply will immediately follow the post you're replying to, do not quote it at all. If your reply refers to a post farther up in the thread, quote only that text that is relevant to your reply. Avoid quoting images.

Your assistance in this will greatly smooth the operation of the Forum and maintain our high signal to noise ratio.

Thanks smile.gif

Hi All,

This is another reminder on something that just seems to creep back in from time to time. In fact the last reminder was just last September (see above).

One of the basic etiquette guidelines on the Forum is the one regarding 'quoting' when replying.

3.5 Avoid excessive quoting. If your reply will immediately follow the post you're replying to, do not quote it at all. If your reply refers to a post farther up in the thread, quote only that text that is relevant to your reply. Avoid quoting images.

The admins/mods spend a lot of time editing and deleting unnecessary quoting from posts.
A lot of this unnecessary quoting probably comes about because readers inadvertently use the "REPLY button rather than the ADD REPLY button.

Using the "REPLY button will include the text/image of the previous post in your message. If you happen to do this, you can help the admin/mods enormously by editing your post and removing this unnecessary quoting.

Best practice - use the ADD REPLY or (if available) FAST REPLY buttons. If you do want to quote an earlier post, use the +QUOTE button on that post and edit it to include only that information which is relevant to your message.

By doing this you will help to ensure that the Forum stays easily readable by all (and save the admins/mods a lot of time). wink.gif

Many thanks.

HI EVERYONE!

It's always worth repeating, particularly when we have an influx of new members, remember to use the ADD REPLY button and not QUOTE when replying to posts, unless required. The admin/mod team have to spend a lot of time cleaning up discussions to remove these excess bits of information.

See the handy tips above and be familiar with the posting etiquette on the Forum. Thanks.

DO YOUR BIT TO REDUCE NOISE ON THE FORUM wink.gif

Quick note to new members: Please DO NOT start new topics for single posts. Instead, please search for existing threads in which your contribution may fit.

This helps to reduce Forum clutter, and also facilitates searching.

Thanks! smile.gif
