And so the torch passes.

Last image reminds me of some of the final Ranger lunar images from the 60's.

Well done MESSENGER! Team has made it's mark in history.

That's true, and also; Eros, the Moon, Titan, and in a couple of years, Saturn also.

Adding my appreciation for the MESSENGER mission which has added immeasurably to our knowledge of Mercury following Mariner 10's initial reconnaissance all those years ago.

Echoing a comment up-thread, it's always a shame to lose a perfectly functioning piece of hardware when the tanks run dry - almost like pushing your faithful and well-loved car off a cliff when it runs out of fuel sad.gif

Seems like without fuel it was destined to crash into Mercury from orbital perturbations, so was "pushing" really involved?

Don't forget that humanity probably knocked some of the mass off of comet Tempel I.

In such a large amount of data is possible to find pearls as this one.

Data from Messenger taken during the very last days of the mission have shown that the crust of Mercury contain quite more carbon than the other terrestrial planets. Full presentation of the findings at Carnegie Science.

After having an in-depth look at the data from the instruments of Messenger, scientists have determined that Mercury have a composition similar to enstatite chondrites.

Hi guys.
I'm not sure if it's ok to post here some links on YouTube videos, but anyway...
I created an animation of Mercury in 4K UHD using data taken by MESSENGER.
Maybe some of you will find this interesting smile.gif
