Sol 3086: Did Curiosity just drive to the top of Mont Mercou smile.gif

I hope Curiosity wasn't inspired by Sean's simulated leap off the bluff and about to do something crazy? :-)

Are they hunting for another drill sample candidate?

Yes, looking for a drill site. This is Jan's panorama in circular form. The distortion caused by the extreme relief is very apparent.

Any chance they'll drive close enough to hang the arm out over the Mont Mercue precipice? I ask in all seriousness, not to put the rover at risk. It would be the mother of all selfies. They could also possibly get some close-ups of the rock face by hanging the arm down. My guess is the potential science and awesome self portrait right on the edge are all too risky.
