Short time to enjoy Eldorado images and now... just released picture of HomePlate, I know still hundred of meters away but seems so close! smile.gif
stitch of two Sol712 NavCams:

It seems Spirit is now at the same level of HomePlate plateau!

Here I tried to identify some features seen from the summit... not totally sure on bright sand spots and rocks, any suggestion?

Dilo, I'm sorry but your identification is incorrect. This hill is in front of Home Plate and blocking it from view. We have to get around its left edge (east) before we will see Home Plate again.

Pancam drive-direction images are now down (mostly):

Phil, I know the bright (rocky?) plateau is behind, but also the hill is very close to HP (it belongs to it!?)...correct? At least a couple of features identifications should be correct...
Anyway, a new image makes even more intriguing Panorama (and less distorted too):

QUOTE (Tesheiner @ Jan 3 2006, 10:03 PM)
Today's (sol 712) drive was really short.
I really wonder if that zig-zag was intended or it was an aborted drive...

As Tesheiner pointed out in the "To El Dorado" thread, the rover seems to be having problems getting over this bit of ground, resulting in at least one short (probably rover-aborted) drive:

There is a nifty sequence of rear-hazcam shots (she's driving backwards) showing the rover "stuttering". Maybe it's the combination of the drift and the rocks and the inclination?

Phil, I must admit my mistake.
The hill is very close to Spirit present position and mask almost completely the HP true ridge...
[attachment=3160:attachment]
However, Akuo suggested that we could find a "mini HP" outcrop behind this hill. rolleyes.gif

Edit: corrected rover name...

Looks to me like alternate driving days and imaging days, perhaps it's a bit restricted at the moment.

I remember similar zig-zagging was pointed out by somebody when Spirit was going downslope near the step at Haskin Ridge. It was the consequence of autonomous drive & slope.

A panoramic view of Inner Basin and Homeplate, the next stop.

Taken with the L navcam on Sol 712.

Looks like a 'look back' to El-D to me - I'm desperate to see that as we're in some comparatively 'Alan is lost' type terrain here smile.gif
