At NASASpaceflight.com they have a drinking game going on for every time this question is being asked:...

OK, that is hilarious. Why don't we have such games?
For every time somebody suggests how they should have included fans/electrostatic discharge devices/wipers to clear the dust off Opportunity's solar panels, drink.

Oh, great. Like I'm NOT two staggers away from rehab already...

Or reflying more MERs, or suggesting a reusable spacecraft architecture of some sort.

...or using the IDD and its arm to push, pull or whack at things.

Well, why NOT fly more MERs?

Because we should be flying more MSL's?
Truth is, we do seem to be approaching something like a standardized Mars rover design. Of course, if we dropped a few dozen of them on Mars, we'd need corresponding teams of scientists and engineers to manage them, which starts getting expensive and is limited by the supply of qualified people.

Couldn't we use the RAT brush to clean off the solar panels? [GULP]

I just don't like their latitude.

I volunteer to take a swig for the team each time I say the Kepler mission needs to carry on for many more years!
Posted by: djellison Dec 5 2011, 10:50 PM
Anytime anyone says 'Earth Like' in conjunction with Kepler results.... drink.
Anytime anyone says 'Couldn't you use fans to blow it off?' about MER and dust... drink.
Anytime anyone says 'That looks scarey/crazy/mad/bound to fail' about MSL EDL... drink.
I used to play this with 'When can I have an iPad version' regarding Eyes on the Solar System...but my doctor told me to stop, unless I wanted a liver transplant by Easter.

This isn't rocket science!
oh, wait...

"This is a major milestone on the road to finding Earth's twin," Douglas Hudgins, Kepler program scientist at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C., said in a statement.

Make mine a double!

And if it's ESA - make it a triple.

The brain surgeon guy has exactly your accent Doug -- if you still have one.

Great, now it will be Robert Webb's voice I have in my head when ever I read a post or tweet from Doug...

Maybe we need to find an even steeper slope so that the dust slides off.

Martian gullies have finally been explained.
Posted by: sgendreau Dec 8 2011, 09:49 PM
Yeah, because WE found LIQUID WATER!
Posted by: nprev Dec 8 2011, 10:49 PM
Well, aside from the "liquid" part, discovering water on Mars for the googleplexith (sp?) time is definitely enough to induce cirrhosis in THIS game...
Posted by: climber Dec 8 2011, 11:03 PM
Yep! We're going to be pretty hydrated soon!
