I wonder if there is a problem with Midnight Planets. It is not showing the latest raw images, which are already posted on https://mars.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/raw/.
Same with the Opportunity raw images. |

I've sent an e-mail to Mike on January 03 re midnight planets not updating with the new image as regular as it used to, and his midnight loader Twitter posts have also stopped working in December. He's not replied yet, I'm not sure if he got the mail as it was addressed to the midnightplanets@me.com address I have used before. Probably just needs a reboot |

Not sure but this looks more like a ridge than a groove. There are similar marks adjacent.

It looks like a ridge if you think the light is coming from one direction, and a groove if you think the light is coming from the opposite direction. You must take the lighting direction into account. If you look carefully at the full image posted by Paul you can see shadows cast by individual grains. There is no ambiguity about the direction of lighting, so there is no ambiguity about what we are looking at. It's a groove. I agree with fredk that it was a product of the brushing, created by a clump of protruding DRT bristles slightly off-centre from the spin axis.
