Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Chit Chat _ The day I met Jim Blinn (in email!)

Back in Summer of 2018, I contacted Jim Blinn about his textures that were used in those Voyager animations back in the 80's & 70's and if I can use it in my project, and he managed to respond back to me, but with a message why he can't let me borrow his textures:

Hi ----,

I looked at the Celestia web site and I think the textures they have are way better than anything I was able to generate 40 years ago. All of mine were only 512x256 resolution and some were only 8-bit/pixel. So that’s 16 times as many pixels for Celestia. Have fun with it.

Jim

Unfortunately, his textures were waaaay older, and some were only 512x256 pixels and less! If you don't know, this is what a 512x256 texture looks like rendered:

After accepting the wonders of low-quality textures, I contacted him back, but he never responded. His last update on his website was at July 30th, 2019.
