Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Conferences and Broadcasts _ Rover spots the 'new thing' on Mars

Posted by: Greg Hullender Nov 5 2011, 12:17 AM

MSNBC ran an article today about Opportunity's latest findings, and not only credits all the pics to Stu, it refers to him as "http://stuartatkinson.wordpress.com/, a British educator, author and amateur astronomer who has been working up wonderful imagery from the rover missions for years."

That's our Stu. Proud to know him.

Ditto!

Thanks, I was amazed by the requests from various sites to use my images. Traffic to Road To Endeavour has gone a bit nuts, almost 2000 hits today. Guess I'd better tidy it up a bit! laugh.gif

Love Road To Endeavour, MSL here we come... Congrats!

MSNBC got it mostly right; they described Stu as a "British educator, author and amateur astronomer".

But they should have added "poet" Stu's images are always fantastic. But there are others on this forum who can match his image wizardry. But being able to put in words what most of us feel about these missions, is something that Stu alone has mastered.

Agreed.

Stu, MAJOR congrats....finally, the wider world is recognizing at least a small part of what we privileged few @UMSF have known all along.

Well done, sir. Well done. smile.gif

Whenever we find something new,
We turn to our beloved Stu,
Cuz no one will know it
Like our Laureate Poet;
He brings it to me and to you!

ehh, I never claimed Poetic Laureacy! cool.gif

Congrats on a richly-deserved acknowledgement! wheel.gif

Oooh. A bad poetry contest in Stu's honor!

When newspapers want pix from Mars
(the kind from those wee robot cars)
They call out "Red Rover,
Send Stuart right over.
His pictures and poems are stars."

Okay, I cannot resist the challenge...but I gotta do it right, in his honor.

Toiling in the darkness, and in the light
To live, yes, but also
To hold a hand, be smiled upon
To make a difference in someone's life
Every day, until each day ends
And he steps outside
Into the brilliant darkness
To truly see
And he has the need, the utter compulsion
To tell others
Of the light in the darkness
Only then can he sleep, knowing
That he has told others what he could see
That they may do the same
That they may have a light in their lives
Like that which sustains his own

For you, Stu. smile.gif

When trying to write a bad limerick,
Don't use good ideas -- go with a trick!
But your words do succeed
In fulfilling the need
To commemorate Stu's words, my good friend Nick!

Wow, thanks everyone. I'm blushing like a nun passing an Ann Summers shop, so, much appreciated, but back to our regular programming now. smile.gif

Some time ago, I haven't even idea, that something as MSNBC exists, but I knew Stuart's blog. smile.gif
Congratulations, Stu!

Yea!

Bad Limerick Tyme!

There once was a bloke named Stu
He ran around with the UMSF crew
He toiled in North Umberland
Running his own private Space Command
And now his images have caused a hullabaloo

(congrats)
