My new book is out"Exploring Planetary Climate: A History of Scientific Discovery on Earth, Mars, Venus and Titan" (332 pp. 132 illus. 602 refs.) published by Cambridge University Press. It outlines how we learned to understand our own climate in the last few centuries and decades, in parallel with discovering the atmospheric conditions on other solar system bodies and exoplanets. The book relates exploration of the ends of the earth, from deep sea cores to mountaintops, to telescopic, theoretical, and ultimately in-situ investigation of our planetary neighbours.

The image attached below is one that I found in a book by Maunder (of sunspot minimum fame) circa 1910. It neatly shows the difference in temperature with latitude and season as understood at the time (by more or less everyone except Lowell) and has been rather well borne out by spacecraft observations half a century later.

Anyway, hopefully the book is of interest to at least some UMSF members...
