The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the opening of their Venus Ground-Based Active Archive.

The Venus ground-based Active Archive (VAA) allows anyone to upload and retrieve ground-based Venus observations obtained in infrared, visual or ultraviolet wavelengths. The aim of this archive is to complement the ongoing Venus Express (VEX) spacecraft observations of Venus with worldwide ground-based images to allow for continuous monitoring of the planet.

Observations of Venus are commonly found on the internet. Unfortunately, they are often not suited for scientific use because they are compressed (JPG), have text in them, are composed of multiple observations, lack information... Therefore ESA/RSSD (Research and Scientific Support Department) established this archive to collect images of Venus in such a way that they are useful for science - i.e. uncompressed, either in FITS or TIFF format, with a set of predefined keywords to ensure that all the information is really there. We now invite you to use this archive to share your observations with the scientific community. When used, your work will be mentioned and properly credited in the related scientific publications!

You can visit the archive at: http://www.rssd.esa.int/index.php?project=VENUS
