Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Chit Chat _ Phil retires...

Posted by: Phil Stooke May 19 2017, 09:17 PM

Yes, it's true, I am retiring from the University of Western Ontario (or as it styles itself these sols, Western U.) and moving to the west coast (Victoria, BC to be precise). I was at Western for 29 years. But now it's time to hang up the Mortar Board and settle down in Victoria. However, you can take the prof out of the cartography course but you can't take the cartography out of the prof, so I will continue mapping rover activities, experimenting with mapping asteroids and comets, writing books etc. until I can't do it any more.

Drop in if you are ever in Victoria! (he said, carefully neglecting to provide any contact information)

Phil

I was only here for one of those 29 years but your work has been much appreciated in my den at least. Maybe now I can ping you about a spare dust jacket for Mars Atlas Volume 2? wink.gif

Good luck with the move and see you back in the saddle soon!

Join the club! I can vouch for the fact that nothing rejuvenates like retirement.

Congrats on the retirement Phil! Also glad to see you're coming to another UMSF's neighbourhood! I've been in Victoria for 3 years now, and I know I'd like to retire here too someday...

Be careful about the drop by. Seattle isn't too far away. biggrin.gif

Congratulations.

Congratulations on your retirement! Once settled in, if you are ever in SoCal make sure to let me know (with some notice) so you come and visit the Lab and if you feel like it, maybe give us a talk? I'm sure Doug would be there!

Congratulations Dr. Stooke on your shift to a self directed lifestyle. Thank you for all the insights and hard work you have presented to us. My shelf of your books is patiently waiting for more additions.

Hi everyone - from Malta, Montana on our road trip across the continent. Thanks for all your kind words, both public and private. I'll be back on the job in a few days. Those Juno pics are great. And I'm really looking forward to cresting Vera Rubin Ridge. Not in my little Yaris, you understand. Though I would give it a try.
