Seems to me that testing face detection software on images which certainly do not contain faces makes for a good test of the software. I'm sure they've run the auto-correction over the manual, replacing the occurences of "facies" ("a body of rock with specified characteristics"). It's actually a facies detection software. |

I kind of expected more false positives--only about a dozen hits in 16,000+ ML images. What's that, four sigma? I'd think just about every pattern one might look for occurs somewhere in the varying textures and shadows.
Here's an interesting paper Automated Detection of Martian Dune Fields. They achieved a 95% detection rate. -------------------- |
