Update to sol 2498 - still at the sol 2481 location but including the new PDS data - because I'll be away for several weeks.
This update includes the location data from PDS Release 21:
- Path data for sols 0-2429 has been reviewed and updated
- Analyst's Notebook data for sols 1-2358 was included

Finally a map update to sol 2556, adding a long drive and a short one, a toe-dip into a drift and back.

Thanks so much for keeping this up to date, Phil! Question: at Gigha sol2354, i noticed a caption box for which my mind is mired in mystery: [MY 35, sol 1]

Mars Year 35, sol 1.

Mars years are counted from 11 April 1955 (= MY 1, sol 1) as explained here:

http://www.planetary.org/explore/space-top...s-calendar.html

I use Mars Year dates throughout my Mars atlases to define the dates of events on Mars.

Map update: I seriously misinterpreted the drive on sol 2555. It's odd because the location I identified gave a great match to the features in the reprojected panorama. Now JPL has provided their maps I will correct mine. It's a good illustration of the difficulty of trying to find locations like this. The corrected map will be added to this post when I get it done.

EDIT: here it is.

A new large-scale base map for the next stage of our journey. This brings us to the hills flanking the Greenheugh Pediment (previously described as an alluvial fan feature but now looking more like an erosional remnant of a much more extensive deposit).

I have updated the map to sol 2565, and I will get the names up to date next week.

I have updated the map to sol 2568, getting closer to Central Butte, and added some target names.

Taking the location from Jan's panorama, a map update for sol 2570 shows a small move up onto the rocky platform surrounding Central Butte.

Thanks Phil!
Here is an update to sol 2577, including names from Phil's maps and a few from a presentation by Dr. Vasavada.
I have fixed as best as possible the problem of the broken URL to JPL's raw images: The URL is now correct and no longer fails. The pages do open in the GE application. However, the pages are not fully displayed, notably the images are not shown, and there is nothing I can do about it. The JPL pages possibly are - my guess - using some code which is unsupported by GE. However, there is a button on the GE browser window's top right which is labelled "Open in [your favourite browser]". Click it and the correct page is opened. Thus it is still possible to get to each sol's images from GE. I do not like the solution but I think that it is the only one.
Enjoy
Fernando
