I kind of expected more false positives--only about a dozen hits in 16,000+ ML images. What's that, four sigma? I'd think just about every pattern one might look for occurs somewhere in the varying textures and shadows.

Here's an interesting paper Automated Detection of Martian Dune Fields. They achieved a 95% detection rate.
