Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Cassini general discussion and science results _ Missing CHARM

Posted by: ngunn Nov 5 2010, 10:23 PM

CHARM presentations are normally given on the last Tuesday of every month except December. It's now 10 days since I would have expected the latest one but nothing has yet appeared on the Cassini website under 'video and more' 'other products'. That means that either I'm being impatient and something will appear shortly, or last month's presentation was not given in a postable format, or as a one-off thing a month was missed, or the regular CHARM sessions have been discontinued and we shouldn't expect more. Anybody know which?

Wouldn't the logical thing be to email the people responsible for it, rather than posting on a forum where the people responsible may or may not see it?

OK I tried to follow your advice. I found their email link and typed in my query, appending my email address. A series of pages followed. I typed in my address again, then I was confronted by a page asking me for things I didn't have a clue about. I don't remember what they all were but IPOP was one of them. I had to 'exit the wizard' and the query was not sent. Well, I understand the last five words anyhow. At least I know how to post here. Maybe somebody will read it who has the answer.

OK I finally got my query in and here's the answer:

Hi Nigel-

The CHARM telecon in October was cancelled. The date coincided with the Cassini Project Science meeting and it was difficult to get a speaker since everyone was attending that meeting. It will likely be the same for January since another PSG is scheduled for the same day.

November looks really interesting. It is a Titan scientist from Cal Tech who is supposed to be a really good speaker. I hope you attend or listen to that one.

Best regards,
Marcia

Good news, and a good reason. I very much enjoy the CHARMs as well. Thanks for checking this, Nigel.

How many Titan scientists can there be at Caltech?

Those who like to view the now-less-frequent CHARMs may have noticed that links to the August '13 presentations were missing for a long time. Well they're there now. http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/video/products/MultimediaProductsCharm/

(Of course we've already seen more great Cassini science results since then!)
