Update to sol 2783.
Going around the sand patches. Curiosity is about 80m away from a detour start point, as marked in the latest planned route. Will it be followed? Fernando The_Martian_Way_MSL_Curiosity_Sol_2783_2020JUN06.kmz ( 784.1K ) Number of downloads: 368 |

This update shows the sol 2786 drive. I don't expect the detour to be followed. I think it was an alternative route to the top of the pediment for a quick look at it, but we already did that.

There's a proposal for a lunar rover (Intrepid) that is being analyzed for consideration by the next Decadal Survey (one of ten advanced mission concepts to get funding). It would do up to 500 m per *hour* for a total of 1800 km over three years. Imagine a future rover like that on Mars. (Note: I don't know (presenter didn't discuss) how much R&D is needed for that level of autonomous driving).) -------------------- |

Don't know if I can keep up with that! (but I do want to see it happen)

Not many pictures down yet but enough for me to get a position. We are close to Bloodstone Hill. As the mission update said, this was visible from the landing site, and I will post a view from there later.

Update to sol 2797. Getting up close and personal (against the cliff and at a large angle!)

Update to sol 2802. Paul's partial panorama gave me the location, moving about 60 m north and east between a couple of little sandy patches. It will be interesting to see if Perseverance can cope with sand better that our poor sleekit cow'rin tim'rous beastie (or rather 'bestie') Curiosity.

Jan's panorama lets me update the map to sol 2804. A drive of only about 15 m to the east to give a better view of the road ahead. We will be here for a week or so.

Curiosity 3D map, updated to sol 2797. You can view it by clicking https://arkeomapia.si/3d/msl. It works best on phones. The interface is a bit basic, but I will try to improve on it in the future. Hope you guys like it. |

Nice! For some reason (my inability?) I prefer to see it with my desktop.
