Methane At Fall Equinox, Possible life?

It mentions a "major source" of methane detected by MGS and others during the fall equinox.
Is there any likely geological cause for this at this time of year?
If not could this be the first serious hint of life on mars.
Shoot me down gently this only my second posting.
