tau, your images are amazing-particularly the Right eye filters 1 to 6 (infrared light) multispectral principal components 1, 2, 3. Are we just recently encountering rocks with highly varied components, or is you PCA algorithm producing more dramatically colored compositions. Either way, the right eye filters are picking up dramatic differences in composition.

The first point is correct, the rocks at this location obviously differ in their mineralogical and chemical composition. I myself was surprised by the colorful rocks. When converting principal components into colors, I make some numerical adjustments (which affect hue and saturation), but they are not the reason for the great variety of colors during the last sols. |
