Sorry to intrude, but is there a map showing future route plans, near term and far? I've looked here and on the obvious sites and couldn't find one. Probably lying in plain sight somewhere, I know...

What about this one? MSL is just now getting to Murray Buttes and it may be over a year before it gets to Hematite Ridge.

If you have, or install, Google Earth (except for the mobile version) you can dowload a KMZ file with a collection of planned routes. Please see Posts #691 and #742.

This update to sol 1427 also includes the PDS Release 12 data, which covers the route for sols 0-1301, and the Analyst's Notebook data for sols 1-1293. The route has now about 14.200 data points.

Here's my latest 3D route map -- copying the course mapping by Phil, as usual.

Bit of a typo there Phil, though we forgive you after a decade of fantastic Martian cartography... wink.gif

Oops - you seem to be correct. I will change it hastily to avoid being banned for life.

OK, another drive on sol 1432 carries us over a patch of sand between two - uh - buttes - and out only the rock again, with a wide expanse of bedrock ahead. Looks good for long drive! This position is based on reprojected Hazcam images.

Sol 1433 - another drive through the thingies. The location is from hazcams and may be a bit off.

A good drive further south on sol 1435, about 60 m. The location is probably fairly good but not exact, the path is conjectural so far.

A drive on sol 1438 took us about 40 m south (about half what was hoped for), and with a new map from Tim Parker at JPL on the MSL website I can correct my last few estimated drive paths and locations. This position should be pretty good, much better than the last one.
