Interests MCS stands for Mesoscale Convective System. That's what the large storm blobs on satellite images are called. Large round ones with cold enough cloud tops can be called Mesoscale Convective Complexes. My avatar is an image of one. MCSs can also be linear. Having experienced several severe MCSs/MCCs in spring 2006, I became a bit obsessed with them. Believe me, I don't like experiencing them, but they are interesting. Thankfully the extremely severe MCSs around September 23, 2006 stayed well to the south of me. The NWS Storm Prediction Center at www.spc.noaa.gov is the place to go for information on the latest MCS activity.
