A little tangible cosmological evidence for the thread--an apparent explanation for the orientation of galactic rotation axes: http://skyandtelescope.com/news/article_1709_1.asp
-------------------- A few will take this knowledge and use this power of a dream realized as a force for change, an impetus for further discovery to make less ancient dreams real.

Astrophysics, abstract
astro-ph/0604410 From: Joao Magueijo [view email] Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2006 16:00:05 GMT (11kb) Occam's razor meets WMAP Authors: Joao Magueijo, Rafael D. Sorkin Using a variety of quantitative implementations of Occam's razor we examine the low quadrupole, the ``axis of evil'' effect and other detections recently made appealing to the excellent WMAP data. We find that some razors {\it fully} demolish the much lauded claims for departures from scale-invariance. They all reduce to pathetic levels the evidence for a low quadrupole (or any other low $\ell$ cut-off), both in the first and third year WMAP releases. The ``axis of evil'' effect is the only anomaly examined here that survives the humiliations of Occam's razor, and even then in the category of ``strong'' rather than ``decisive'' evidence. Statistical considerations aside, differences between the various renditions of the datasets remain worrying. http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0604410 -------------------- "After having some business dealings with men, I am occasionally chagrined,
and feel as if I had done some wrong, and it is hard to forget the ugly circumstance. I see that such intercourse long continued would make one thoroughly prosaic, hard, and coarse. But the longest intercourse with Nature, though in her rudest moods, does not thus harden and make coarse. A hard, sensible man whom we liken to a rock is indeed much harder than a rock. From hard, coarse, insensible men with whom I have no sympathy, I go to commune with the rocks, whose hearts are comparatively soft." - Henry David Thoreau, November 15, 1853 |

Magueijo has just raised concern about the galactic contamination in the WMAP to a three alarm fire. Since Nth order harmonics disappear when the three year data is averaged, the chances of using the power function of the WMAP data to isolate 'correct' parametric treatment of the 'Axis of Evil' is minimal.
Translation: Until a local causal root for the 'Axis of Evil' can be identified and eliminated in a way that does not lead to parametric breeding, the conclusions of the WMAP team cannot be defended. More to the point: The PLANCK mission should be put on indefinite hold until the WMAP team response to the many papers challenging both the analysis and the conclusions. Astrophysics, abstract astro-ph/0604410 From: Joao Magueijo [view email] "In addition it’s probably fair to say that the trouble of rewriting cosmology textbooks deserves in itself a penalty factor." That is so dry. |

The previous limit of 24 Gpc [4] can be extended by about 10% using filtering of theWMAP power spectrum.
