UMSF 2014 Survey - Jan.19-Feb.2, 2014 - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1PgzQXhEop-RgUvRp3OLvxmTakvVn0HksbzDppLlFWyg/viewform

On 8 February 2014, Unmanned Spaceflight.com reaches a significant milestone – 10 years of 'exploring the solar system and beyond from the comfort of home'.

In the past decade, the goals of robotic missions have become more ambitious, fast access to spacecraft data has become almost common place and the capabilities of UMSF members to process images and discuss the minutia of mission activities has continued to develop.

The Administration and Moderation team continuously monitors members' contributions and how they reflect upon and shape the direction of the Forum. Maintaining a high 'signal-to-noise' ratio has always been very important and in general has been kept at a very high level.

With that ongoing goal in mind, the UMSF team would like to take the temperature of the Forum by asking its members a few questions.

We are inviting all members (active and lurkers) as well as guests (readers only) of UMSF to complete the following https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1PgzQXhEop-RgUvRp3OLvxmTakvVn0HksbzDppLlFWyg/viewform via Google Docs.

Your comments and results will help us know how we are currently performing and how we might develop in the future.

Thank you for your assistance.
The UMSF Administration and Moderation Team

Please note:
The survey is not collecting names or email addresses. All responses and comments are confidential.
Statistical data and comments will be compiled to help the UMSF team to assess and develop the Forum.
A report on the survey will appear at a later date.

I STRONGLY encourage all Forum users, registered or unregistered, to complete this survey, and all credit to Astro0 for pulling this together.

The admin/mod team is determined to keep UMSF a valuable and, yes, entertaining resource for all indefinitely, and we really do want to know what you think to help us do that in the best ways we possibly can. The results will not be used to directly influence policies, but they will definitely be valuable inputs for the current and any future directions of our community.

Thanks for your help! smile.gif

Fellow UMSFers, PLEASE don't forget to take this short survey. The admin/mod team really does need your feedback to keep UMSF the premier site in the world for discussion of robotic exploration!

Heck, I even took it. My only comment was "nprev is great!", but that should come as no surprise… wink.gif

Anyhow. This small investment of all your time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! smile.gif

Did it on the first day. It's not very long at all.

Posted by: Ant103 Jan 26 2014, 05:56 PM

Done smile.gif With a great pleasure !

Posted by: scalbers Jan 26 2014, 06:08 PM

Did the survey - a simple and useful set of questions...

Posted by: nprev Jan 26 2014, 07:25 PM

Thanks, all. All credit to Astro0 for it!!! (I've been asking him to get at least some sleep, and he promises me no later than 2018 or so… rolleyes.gif )

Posted by: ustrax Jan 28 2014, 12:31 AM

Done...and here for the following 10 years...they're promising. smile.gif

Posted by: nprev Jan 28 2014, 09:15 PM

Wow! A rare appearance by ustrax to do the survey! smile.gif

Just a bump & a reminder, gang; let's get 'er done!!!

Posted by: Astro0 Jan 29 2014, 09:45 PM

Just a reminder that you only have until this Sunday to make your voice heard on the https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1PgzQXhEop-RgUvRp3OLvxmTakvVn0HksbzDppLlFWyg/viewform! cool.gif

Posted by: nprev Jan 31 2014, 05:00 PM

Alright gang, we're getting near the finish line here! If you haven't completed the survey yet, please take a moment to do so, and please speak your mind freely. (Hint: "nprev is great" is NEVER a wrong answer! tongue.gif ).

Seriously, though, the admin/mod team does want to hear your compliments, complaints & suggestions in order to plan for the Forum's second decade. Good news here is that we probably won't do this again until 2024, but that also means that this is a pretty rare opportunity…so let 'er rip!!! smile.gif

Thanks!

Filled it last week. But I'm wondering if there are people like me who normally just bookmark and read a particular forum or topic (eg Mars). I occasionally have a look at the main site so caught this. But many people, even frequent readers/posters, may not be aware of the survey.

I'm not sure how to make it more visible, though. Maybe a reminder posted in the most popular threads (eg MSL)?

Hmm. Good point.

I'm not at all savvy about the mechanics of the Invision power board, but hopefully one of the far more knowledgeable members of the admin/mod team will have an idea. Thanks for the suggestion, sir! smile.gif

Is there a way to send a mass PM to all members? It's a little like using thermonuclear devices to solve a mosquito infestation, but it would make sure everyone is aware of the survey...

Unfortunately, not that I know of. Also, the survey's not restricted to just members; we'd also like unregistered people to complete it as well.

Posted by: Explorer1 Feb 1 2014, 04:29 AM

Put a message in the logo, maybe? Better late than never...

Posted by: nprev Feb 1 2014, 05:06 AM

I dunno. The response rate really hasn't been too bad, just trying to maximize it before it's all over by just bumping this thread.

We're also trying to be not too intrusive & distract from the dialogue, of course.

We're comin' down to the wire here, fellow space enthusiasts!!! Less than 48 hrs remain to complete the UMSF 2014 Survey! Remember that it's open to all, both registered members and guests.

Thanks to everyone who've already done so! smile.gif

I turned mine in. It's very quick, if you don't get hung up on the optional essay questions.

Posted by: nprev Feb 2 2014, 04:51 PM

Thanks, Tom.

Yeah, the comments are indeed optional so it's pretty much every person's choice as far as how much or how little time they want to spend completing the survey.

Anyhow…last day!!! We will resume our normal programming shortly. Won't be around much since I got a lotta swag riding on the Super Bowl here in the US today, so gotta get over to the stadium & start "bending" the limbs of a few key players; much like the survey, this can go easy or hard for them, their choice. tongue.gif

Posted by: Astro0 Feb 3 2014, 09:50 PM

The survey is now closed.
Thanks everyone for responding to the UMSF 2014 Survey.
We'll report on the results a little later.
