Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Tech, General and Imagery _ MER: 9 YEARS LATER

Posted by: Astro0 Jan 4 2013, 12:38 AM

It was nine years ago (yes 9!) that Spirit bounced down into Gusev Crater and into the history books.
Her sister rover Opportunity would follow a few weeks later, half a world away at Meridiani Planum.

Follow the adventure through the eyes of a Mars rover driver (in fact the https://twitter.com/marsroverdriver), Scott Maxwell through his brilliant sol-by-sol blog http://marsandme.blogspot.com.au/2009/01/spirit-sol-1.html. The MER mission website has an http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status.html, http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/press/ and of course http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/.

Also, take a look back through UMSF's http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/index.php?showtopic=7550 to see how our members followed the mission and to see how much better we are today at image processing and discussing the science. We've all come a long way smile.gif

pancam.gif Congratulations to all of the Mars Exploration Rover team. We will always remember Spirit and will continue to follow Opportunity through all the adventures to come.

Rove On!

The time just flew... my goodness. I found this forum a month of two after landing, and haven't left since. And the images are all right there. Looking at Spirit's last pictures now.
