Wow, they've taken warp drives and added variable inlet geometry! Who knew air-breathing engine technology would help in creating a warp field?

Shiny indeed, and I see that the phased array is gone & the parabolic dish is back!

The inlets must be for the sublight drive; who needs impulse power when you got twin Bussard ramjets! laugh.gif

Half the internet exploded last night when they released this picture. blink.gif

I, for one, absolutely love it.

I was just enough of a geek to remind myself beforehand that warp drives didn't work that way! True though... how is impulse supposed to work?

It goes forward on a whim.

I must say I'm repulsed by this design.
I think they went a bit too far, but that's just my honest opinion. I prefer the original to this one.

Without slipping into full-blown geekiness here, I always thought that it was a field-pinch fusion drive.

Awful.

Very funny, but AWFUL!!!!! laugh.gif

They're obviously trying to make the film's Enterprise look more "realistic", in that it now fits visually into the timeline between Archer's Enterprise and the V'Ger-chasing Enterprise. I think it works, personally. Lovely sweeping lines, the familiar saucer section...

Good to have the Old Lady back on the big screen. smile.gif

I love it!

What would they do? Can't use the 60's design!?!?
I hope we get a series spin off.

Also check out Uhura! What a Fox!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! When I was in college, my Psychology professor subjected us to Star Trek clips. My sophomore roommate subjected me to whole episodes. I have since had nightmares about it. No one should have to suffer through that show again. biggrin.gif

As for my own reaction to this version of NCC-1701, I was afraid they were going to try something like this. After they made Archer's Enterprise look a lot sexier than the original series' starship, I was worried that any TOS prequel movie was going to try and make the Enterprise look sleeker and higher tech than Kirk's ship.

As far as design goes, it's like a company was making Italian sportscars for generations, and for one single generation decided to retrofit all of their products to look like a 1970 Volvo.

It's possible to make the original TOS version of a Constitution-class starship look and move really great without damaging the original design -- they did it with CGI in the "Mirror, Darkly" two-parter near the end of ST:Enterprise's last season. I'm unhappy that some guy has decided to remake the Star Trek canon in order to produce Starfleet 90210.

Sigh.
