Yes, they are great images. I have manipulated the end of day panorama to come up with these different views:

The large pointy rock west of the rover, said to be a target for analysis soon, is mostly shaded at the left edge of the circular version.

And here's the other pan in cylindrical and my circular version. Thanks to ... the source of the images, whoever that is.

And Earth turned out to be just as expected; not much difference from a deep space shot at the same distance! (Google Translate of the caption says something about '15 points'; possibly 15 degrees from the horizon?)

Much better pictures of the landing gear and how far it's sunk into the regolith too.

Nope, the caption said that the photo was taken by the lander's MastCam on December 25 at 02:15 BJT (18:15 UTC Dec. 24). pancam.gif

Very nice indeed. Good to view the side shots of the lander in decent quality.

I notice that the images are still not fully calibrated (or perhaps not calibrated at all for these releases), as you can see a gradient on each individual image that composes the mosaic.

This source also has some of the UV images of Earth:

I have attempted to reconstruct the picture based on the published time, using the Fourmilab Earth/Moon Viewer and an 18:00 UTC MTSAT image.

Looking at GOES imagery of the prominent swirl near Antarctica, it's pretty clear to me that the Chang'e picture was taken quite a bit earlier than 18:15 UTC. I would guess about 15:30 UTC based on where the terminator is with respect to the swirl.

That was not the only Earth image. This newscast:

includes three views of Earth:

Can you clarify what you are meaning?

I think the comment is about the animated header on the site http://news.sohu.com/s2013/change/

As '4th rock' says, the post was referring to the animation at the top of that web page. It shows Yutu in motion, but it is travelling on the wrong part of the moon, an area in the south of the Oceanus
Procellarum. I'm sure it is just the web designer's flair - not intended to be accurate.

360° panorama

Isn't Earth in that panorama in the wrong place? Shouldn't be south of the lander instead of north?
