Today Post (Nov 25) from 5thstart
Streaming video from the control room will start at 3am JST (GMT+9).

Last time the JAXA blog had been overloaded due to high traffice demand. I believe they have upgraded the web server, but it might be a good idea to make a sort of "mirror sites". Volunteers?

The stream video starts at 1:00 pm in New York, 6:00 pm in London. The climax would be around 6:00-8:00 am JSP (4:00 pm-6:00 pm in New York).

Hope the Japanese food will serve us at TV video time like the following picture

QUOTE (Ishigame @ Nov 25 2005, 02:53 PM)
It takes 15-20 minutes in one way to communicate with the explorer.
There are 300 million km distance between Earth and Hayabusa.

Thanks. Now I know what they meant.

QUOTE (Rakhir @ Nov 13 2005, 05:01 PM)
Suzuka posted on space.com the transcript of the press conference held at 8:00PM November 12 concerning the rehearsal descent.

http://uplink.space.com/showflat.php?Cat=&...&fpart=all&vc=1

He also summarized the comments of Kawaguch Project Manager concerning Minerva.

"1. The speed of Minerva is 8.3cm/s in an infinite distance.

2. The rise stops in 6-7 days if it is early because the deceleration by the sun radiation pressure is 1.4cm/s/day. And, it falls aiming at ITOKAWA spending the same time.

3. And, when Minerva returns to the position of ITOKAWA, Minerva collides with ITOKAWA if ITOKAWA is near.

4. If Minerva passes the neighborhood of ITOKAWA, it never returns to ITOKAWA according to the sun radiation pressure.

Therefore, ISAS/JAXA seems to monitor the signal from MINERVA continuously. Minerva will return at the time of landing on just November 25."

If I understand well, Minerva was departing from Itokawa at 8.3 cm/s but because of the sun radiation pressure, it will "fall back" and arrive in the vicinity of Itokawa on November 25.
And if by chance, Itokawa is on its trajectory, it could eventually collide (and perhaps land).

But they don't know if the power supply of Minerva can last such a long time.

BTW, the link between Minerva and Hayabusa was lost after 18h of communication, but it could be due to a bad orientation of the antenna. They are trying to re-establish contact.

Up to now, the Minerva must be close to Hayabusa or Itokawa according to the previous report....What is up with that? No news up to now, I am afraid it has already passed over them (Nov 25 in Japan was yesterday...)

World Zone Times PST is 7 hours ahead than JSP (7:00 am JSP Nov 26 and 00:00 am in PST Nov 25)

As I type this, it is Nov 26 1:45AM JSP and Nov 25 8:45AM here. (I'm on the west coast of Canada PST) So, if touchdown is scheduled to occur at 7:00am on the 26th JSP, that is in 5 hours and 15 minutes. That makes it 14:00 PST Nov 25. (Not midnight the 25/26th)

So 5 hours, folks

Good luck.

Since it is their last attempt, they could perhaps shoot both remaining projectiles, with a little time gap between each shot, to increase the volume of regolith collected?

and speaking of projectiles here is a photo of the projectile and it's launcher (or gun).

(Is that a pack of cigarettes? Funny that the brand name is Caster, right next to the projectile casting device.)

This blogger guy is my favorite person at JAXA. These blogs have been a flood of information and background on Hayabusa. Anyone know his name? I see he's back up to four bottles again.

...and once again here's the Google translation of the blog.

English Translation

I have found that if you leave it open, it actually refreshes itself now and then.

Perhaps they are checking for any vital Hayabusa's parts or they are monitoring the Hayabusa relative position x-y-z comparing to the Itokawa?

I think right now it is time to drink a LIPOVITAN D in order not to miss any close watch....
