A roughly assembled RMI mosaic featuring the 'Spikes' provides a little more detail (Sol 3793)

I like John's hypothesis for these spikes

Clearly a spike belt. The GCPD couldn't catch Curiosity during the high speed chase up the hill so they called ahead and had a spike belt deployed.

Jan's new panorama for sol 3796 in circular form. The high relief in the foreground makes for serious distortion, but we are almost at the top of this rocky slope.
