I wonder if Juno will have a box seat for the dissipation of the Great Red Spot!

Nice composites Kevin. How are you handling the brightness variations between images?
Lot of manual work, or do you have an algorithm?

Lots of manual alignment, blending, and brightness adjustments.

I put all my processed imagery for PJ20 (pre-photoshop) onto a Google Drive share if anyone would like a stab at enhancing them: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1sFQm2wNfnns-DRAj1x7k3_b_APm8QyEA

I've created a couple Augmented Reality globes for PJ20, viewable with a device running iOS 12 or newer.
This uses https://developer.apple.com/augmented-reality/quick-look/ to display USDZ formatted objects.

That looks so great Brian, almost makes me wish I had Apple OS!

Kevin, thanks for sharing these 3D outputs, it's great to see your raws... can I ask what version of Blender you are using? The blend file doesn't open on version 2.79.

Approximately true color/contrast and enhanced versions of image PJ20_26 (Jet N5):

The spot near center is quite dark but not exceptionally so. Its brightness relative to nearby areas is comparable to e.g. the brown barges.

In the meanwhile, I've compiled a PJ20 flyby. Here is a link to the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKH1nUmTNyI&feature=youtu.be. Here http://junocam.pictures/gerald/uploads/20190620/.

Those are illumination-adjusted with a 5th degree polynomial illumination function over 2 parameters, designed specifically for PJ20. Nevertheless, there are obvious shortcomings near the limb resulting in brightness fluctuations in the flyby movie by auto-exposure. I may eventually review this more globally, and derive a 3 parameter solution, but I can't spend too much time on this question in the very short run. Review will probably take place in a few weeks.

Here is a list of links to more or less preliminary PJ20 renditions. Illumination adjustment of these renditions is based on PJ06.

Some more products are still work in progress, and I might eventually find time to review most of those renditions with a different illumination model / BRDF / phase function.

Image PJ20_34 in approximately true color/contrast versions:

Enhanced versions:

Posted by: Bjorn Jonsson Jul 21 2019, 07:20 PM

The PJ20 images showing areas near the equator are especially interesting.

Below is an enhanced map-projected image processed from PJ20_34 showing the area from planetographic latitude 5 degrees south to 6.6 degrees north. The image has been processed to better reveal various subtle features and color variations. The enhancement/processing parameters differ for different parts of the image. The enhancement is strongest in areas that have low contrast in the original imaging data.

Various interesting cloud features can be seen; perhaps the strangest one is the 'fleet of ships' (a term first used by John Rogers in his PJ20 report) in the lower right quadrant of the image. Interestingly the 'ships' are oriented at an angle of roughly 30-60 degrees relative to faint north-south oriented striations in this area. The visual impression I get from the image is that the 'ships' are higher in the atmosphere but this could easily be wrong. Similar features are visible in a few Voyager 1 images obtained shortly before closest approach but the new JunoCam images are much better.

A number of additional interesting features are also visible in this image; many of them look very subtle in a true color/contrast version of this image (see below).
