A giant of science and one of the most influential science popularizers of our time has passed. Dr. Hawking's genius and courage inspired and educated millions.

A terrible loss.
I had the good fortune of seeing him present at a symposium a few years ago (his talk and answers to previously-submitted questions were recorded). It warmed my heart to see, in person, that he could still smile.
Now he belongs to the stars.
