Mars Landing Parties for MSL EDL, Physically Getting Together as Space Enthusiasts

For the "7 minutes of terror", followed hopefully by elation and delight, I find myself in the beautiful city of Porto, in Portugal. I was wondering if other enthusiasts will be there, or know if any activities are planned there for EDL?

- Others who'd like to meet up elsewhere are welcome to post here as well!

Well, I can't make it to Portugal but anyone wanting to come to Canberra, Australia is certainly welcome to come to the tracking station and be with us as we provide the communications link to MSL and via ODY and MRO for EDL. There's some information on the event on our website.

Don't forget that there are lots of places holding 'Mars Landing Parties'.
There's a good list on the TPS website and lots more if you Google them.

Hmm, when I google 'Mars landing party' I get a song with some rather unsavoury lyrics by a group called Placebo... Anyway, if there are some portuguese members who can give me info (Ustrax?) I'd love to know!

ADMIN: TIP: Add some search words like NASA, rover, MSL, space. That'll weed out the other stuff.

Nice to see that you believe in the Skycrane manoeuver wink.gif
That's a shame I cannot come to Paris.
Enjoy the show!

Myself and a subset of my work colleagues (space and astronomy fans) will be using a few hours of Time In Lieu on Monday afternoon to watch NASA TV in our conference room. I'm bringing peanuts and pistachios and various Mars related things I have accumulated over the years (maps, books etc).

Go MSL-Curiosity! mars.gif

CosmoQuest hosted an excellent hangout on google+, but the thing that gave me goosebumps was Eyes on The Solar System! The real-time telemetry and animation of entry lent a very palpable feeling to the mission control feedback! Thanks!!!

One of the mosaics done late Friday night and shown yesterday (Saturday) afternoon at our National Science Museum ("Cite des Sciences") event in Paris where more than 1,000 people gathered in the conference room... Enjoy smile.gif
