The latest release of calibrated MER images to the PDS (covering the period Sol 2341 - 2430) includes those taken of the meteorite "Oilean Ruaidh", which Oppy encountered and studied back in September last year (really?! That long ago?!?! Yep...). I used them to have another go at making some colour pics of the meteorite...
Dang that is nice. There is just something about those calibrated color images.
What a beautiful meteorite! I love the way those specular parts stand out. That's my idea of something shiny spotted on the plains of Meridiani.
Do you know what sol that was imaged on? I wanted to compare that to a false color image made from the raw jpegs, but I couldn't find that particular view of the meteorite.
Boy howdy, Stu, yes, that is just freakin' beautiful!!! Iron-nickel meteorites are striking to look at in their own right, but seeing them sitting on the surface of Mars adds another dimension entirely.
